The badge appears automatically next to every VIN the extension finds.

How it works

1. Add it to Chrome

One click from the Chrome Web Store. Free, no account needed, and it only asks for the minimum permissions.

2. Browse listings like normal

On supported listing sites, the extension spots every VIN printed on the page and marks it with a small TrulyCar badge.

3. Check history in one click

Click the badge and the VIN arrives on TrulyCar already decoded: year, make, model, and the full history a click away.

Works where you shop for cars

The badge appears on every listing that prints a VIN. And the toolbar popup works on any site: paste a VIN or look up a US plate without leaving the page you're on.

Private by design

Minimal permissions

The extension asks only for storage (to remember your state for plate lookups) and the active tab. It cannot read your browsing history.

Nothing is collected

VIN scanning happens entirely inside your browser. No page content, listing data, or personal information is sent anywhere.

Plate lookup built in

No VIN on the listing? Open the toolbar popup, enter a US license plate and state, and the extension finds the VIN for you.

Chrome extension questions, answered

Is the TrulyCar Chrome extension free?

Yes. Installing the extension, VIN spotting on listing sites, the instant decode, and plate-to-VIN lookups are all free. You only pay if you choose to unlock a full vehicle history report, exactly as on the website.

Which websites does it work on?

The extension scans listings on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Autotrader, Cars.com, and CarGurus. The toolbar popup works everywhere: paste any VIN or look up a US license plate from any tab.

Can the extension read my browsing data?

No. It runs only on the supported listing sites, scans the page locally in your browser for 17-character VINs, and sends nothing anywhere. It has no access to your history, passwords, or other tabs.

How do license plate lookups work?

The popup sends the plate and state to TrulyCar's public plate-decode service, which resolves the VIN and opens it on trulycar.com. Lookups are limited to 10 per 10 minutes.

Stop copy-pasting VINs between tabs
